How a compelling novel centers on the protagonist’s goal

July 9, 2015 @ 6:30 pm

6:30 – 7:00:  Social.  Grab a cup of joe, maybe a plate of Agia Sophia’s scrumptious food, sit back, and relax.  Catch up with old friends.  Make some new ones.

7:00 – 8:00:  How a compelling novel centers on the protagonist’s goal

How a compelling novel centers on the protagonist’s goal.  It’s the character’s striving to reach his or her goal, along with the successes and setbacks that build the edge of your seat tension.  By centering on the protagonist’s goal, the author helps keep the audience focused on what’s most important, as well as that which is most entertaining.

8:00 (sharp) – 9:30:  Tre Critique – A three-member team approach to more dynamic and informative critiques of our work.  This worked well last week, so it’s now our standard approach.

Please bring three copies of your latest work needing a critique, in the following format:

– 1,000 words (4 pages)

– double-spaced

– 12-pt Times New Roman.

Each group will spend 20 minutes reading one person’s work, another 20 minutes reading another person’s work, then 30 – 40 minutes time critiquing one another’s work using the Tres Critique method.

9:30 – 10:00:  Freefall.  Winding Down
