Short Critique – In the Time of COVID-19
March 19 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
While it looks like our usual iHOP will be open, I wonder about the wisdom of meeting physically, especially in a restaurant. However we may try virtual critique. That is we could e-mail copies of our pages to all members, then connect via Skype or Discord to discuss. File format will be .doc without macros.
If this is your first time with us then let me know you’re interested. My username at “gmail.com” is “scottydm.com” (yes, that’s a dot and a “com”, but it’s legal under the RFCs and it works). Include your phone number as I may need to call everyone at some point on Thursday night.
Now for the usual:
Both giving and receiving critiques helps build our abilities as writers. Critique is given writer to writer and its purpose is to help the author improve the piece. You don’t need to be an expert to give a useful critique, and we take people at any ability level.
E-mail a copy of your work to me as a .doc file without macros, standard manuscript format, by 6:00pm on the date of the critique (Thursday). I will e-mail out copies to all participants by 6:30pm. Standard manuscript format means 8½ x 11 paper, 1 inch margins all around, a 12 point easily readable font (Times, Courier, Bookman, Palatino, etc), and double-space your lines (24 or 25 lines per page).
Short means five pages. If your scene/chapter/short story is a little bit longer, send the whole thing. If we have time we’ll do more than the first five pages.
